1. Overview
Convert PDF to Excel is a Chrome browser extension that extracts tables from PDF files and converts them into editable Excel or CSV spreadsheets. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
2. Data We Collect
PDF file content: When you convert a PDF, the file content is processed to extract tables. Text-based PDFs are processed locally in your browser. In AI mode, file content is sent to an AI service for enhanced extraction.
Page URL: The current tab URL is read to detect whether the page contains a PDF. This data is not transmitted to our servers.
Usage settings: Preferences such as output format (Excel/CSV) are stored locally in your browser using Chrome storage.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect your name, email, or any personal identifiers.
We do not store your PDF files or their contents on our servers (except transiently during AI mode processing).
We do not track your browsing history.
We do not sell or share data with third parties for advertising.
4. AI Mode
When AI mode is enabled, PDF content is transmitted over HTTPS to an AI processing service for enhanced table extraction. Data is used solely for conversion and is not retained after processing is complete.
5. Permissions
activeTab: To detect whether the current tab contains a PDF and read its URL.
tabs: To monitor tab navigation and automatically detect PDF files.
contextMenus: To add a right-click option on PDF links for quick conversion.
storage: To save your preferences (output format, settings) locally in the browser.
sidePanel: To display the conversion interface in Chrome's side panel.
Access to all URLs (<all_urls>): To fetch and process PDF files hosted on any website when you initiate a conversion.
6. Data Security
All data transmitted in AI mode is sent over encrypted HTTPS. PDF content is not retained after conversion is complete.
